Abstract
Dairy farming is one of the most important sector in India. Nearly benefit 15 million people of our country. It offers great employment opportunity in rural as well as urban population. It also helpful in women empowerment in rural India. It creates economic independence for depending sector. It also helpful in providing quality products in its sector. Government of Uttar Pradesh offers Kamdhenu Pariyojana for sustainable development in Dairy products. The present study will focus on valuable contribution of mini, micro and macro level dairy producers in development of this industry. This study was done in the area of Saharanpur district (Uttar Pradesh) which is located in the hails of Shivalik Hills.
Saharanpur lies in upper Gangetic Plain in Tarai and Bhabar zone of U.P. at a latitude of 290 34’ and 300 21’N and longitude of 770 9’ & 780 14’ E. It is famous for its wood carving work. Major soil of Saharanpur is loam. Besides, farmer level irrigation facilities it has good network of irrigation canals. It is well irrigated district with more than 90 per cent of net sown area is irrigated. Major crops of the district are rice and maize in kharif and wheat, sugarcane, Barley, mustard and sesame in rabi season. Saharanpur is a mango belt after Malihabad in Uttar Pradesh. There has been ample area under fodder crops, namely, sorghum, millet, berseem enough to sustain a large livestock population, i.e., 1048145 of Saharanpur district. As per reports of the Government of India states that U.P. produced record milk and dairy products in the country. It progressively increases day by day from 277.697 lakh metric tonnes in 2016-17 to 318.630 lakh metric tonnes in 2019-20. During the last four years 1,242.37 lakh metric tonnes of milk was produced in Uttar Pradesh. Increase in production has gradually increased employment opportunities in dairy farming sector in last four to five years.
