Abstract
Vegetables are an essential part of a healthy diet. Vegetables comprise of a large number of plants, mostly annual, of which different parts like leaf, steam, flowers, fruit, root etc. are eaten. Vegetables vary markedly in their nutritional value depending upon the different plant parts consumed. Nutrition includes both quality as well as quantity and vegetables rich in nutraceuticals have medical health benefits including the prevention and treatment of diseases. The amendment in climate affects the incidence of nutritional disorders in vegetable crops. Nutritional disorders have a major role in hammering the yield and quality of fresh vegetables. This leads to major losses in terms of economic as well as nutritional aspect. Some important nutritional disorder, their symptoms, causes and their management are described in this review article.
Vegetables are a Horticultural food crop. Other horticultural food crops include small fruits and tree fruits. Which are usually grown as perennials. Vegetables crops may be either annual or perennials. From a production standpoint, a vegetable crop may be defined as a high value crop that is intensively managed and requires special care after harvest (Welbaum, 2015). Vegetables can be eaten either raw or cooked and play an important role in human nutrition. They are mostly low in fat and carbohydrates, but high in vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber. Especially antioxidant vitamins (vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E) and dietary fiber content have important roles in human health. Nutrition experts advised people to consume more fruit and vegetable, also recommended five or more portions a day. What are Nutritional Disorders? Disorders of vegetable crops caused by deficiencies or toxicities of the elements essential for higher plants are described. The soil and environmental conditions affecting the availability of plant nutrients in soils are discussed in reference to the potential for occurrence of nutritional disorders.
