Abstract

The Linga Purana, one of the major 18 Puranas, is studied critically in the perspective plant invasion and for contentsof scientific rationality. Total 18 species are found aliens belonging to 18 genera and 14 families of angiosperms. They belong to different 
geographical regions and countries of both Old and New Worlds. Plant invasion in ancient period of time in India is focused. Some rational and independent thinking as evidenced in the various verses is emphasized. Interestingly, plant classification based on plant habits is brought in a clearer focus. Categorization based on habitat is also pointed out. Puranas are obviously rich sources of plant science if analysed carefully and unbiased.
